Critters Make Me Smile!

It has been a busy summer full of "surprises," so I decided to do a few relatively quick paintings to cheer myself up.  It worked like a charm!

These first two portraits were "payment" for my end of a couple of trades.
Gracie, the Australian Shepherd
Mustard Danger, International Lhasa Apso of Mystery!

I was on a roll, so I also did one of my husband's cat, Mouse.
Mouse, the cat who was raised by a dog.

And while I was awaiting photographs for new portrait orders, I did this for some fun.
For the story behind the Red Kitty with a Pink Tail, see the
"Happiness Happens If You Make It" post on the Corporate Rejects blog

For those interested in a custom portrait, they are available through my online shop at http://skelekitty.artfire.com.

Hank Fundraiser - background and update

11/27 UPDATE!!  THIS JUST IN!!!!  Donation amounts from all "Help Hank" purchases made in my shop between NOW and 11:59PM on Monday night will be matched DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR by an anonymous donor!!!  The love just keeps pouring in!  (Just go to my shop and search HELPHANK or click on his happy photo!)  http://skelekitty.artfire.com

If you are wondering what all this is about "Hank" the dog, let me plagiarize a friend (Paige Lettington)'s Facebook post:

To all my friends who love animals (as well as music and lifting heavy things)...Allyson Seconds was my first trainer at BodyTribe and she rescues animals. In fact, she was late to our first session because she was rescuing a squirrel. Her most recent rescue (that I know of) is Hank, a very sweet black lab whom she has had for about a year. He has come down with Leptospirosis, and has had some vet bills this past week that are tough for Al to handle. Her other dog, Lulu (also a rescue) had two vet incidents this month too, and Al makes her living making music and making people strong, so her financies are limited. There are a couple of ways to help. You can buy something (and support a local artist) from Krissi Sandvik through Monday, or donate directly to Al via PayPal. See both options here: http://krissisandvik.blogspot.com/2011/11/hank-dog-and-sale-update.html

Thanks to ALL OF YOU, I've been able to gather $130 from the sale of prints and pendants, and we still have two full days to go! Through donations and purchases, Allyson was able to obtain the diagnosis via an expensive 'senior blood panel."  I cannot express just how much the purchases and notes I've received, both to me and on behalf of Hank, Allyson and Kevin Seconds, have done to restore my faith in humanity.  For that alone, thank you.

I have a few newish pieces going up in the shop to help raise funds for Hank's vet bills.  To find out which pieces will have all profits donated to Hank's vet fund, just click on the "Help Hank" picture in my shop or search "helphank" on ArtFire.com.
The HELP HANK sale has been extended INDEFINITELY

If you can only afford a couple of dollars or would prefer your entire donation go to Hank, you may also donate directly to Allyson via PayPal (her address is alnational1@gmail.com).

Thank you again for your caring, help, notes and for just being awesome.

You guys rock.

Hank the Dog and a Sale Update

11/27 (2:00 pm PST) UPDATE:

THIS JUST IN!!!!  Donation amounts from all "Help Hank" purchases made in my shop between NOW and 11:59PM on Monday night will be matched DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR by an anonymous donor!!!  The love just keeps pouring in!  (Just go to my shop and search HELPHANK or click on his happy photo!)  http://skelekitty.artfire.com

Hank is a good-natured black Lab who was found last Thanksgiving on the Sacramento river by a local photographer, artist, musician, personal trainer and all-around awesome woman, Allyson Seconds. If you don't know Al, I can assure you that she gives to the community whenever and however she can.  Now one of her rescued dogs needs more veterinary care than she can afford (following two medical incidents with her Lab/Border Collie cross, Lulu last month).

Therefore, I decided that in addition to my customer appreciation / un-occupy the malls sale this weekend (see below), I would donate all profits from select animal-themed prints & pendants to Hank's veterinary fund.

While the flyer says it starts tomorrow, I will honor any
Operation Help Hank purchases today.  'Cause I love that big galoot.

UPDATES ON HANK can be found here, on Allyson's facebook page

Just click on the HELP HANK button here or in the Skelekitty & Friends shop to see which items are part of the benefit.  I'm adding more each day.  All you do is make a qualifying purchase before the clock chimes 12 midnight on Tuesday morning.  You don't need to do anything else, I'll automatically donate the profits to Allyson for Hank.  However, you're encouraged to send a little note with your purchase - I really like little notes and I'll pass those on to Al as well.

How to Help Hank:

BUY YOURSELF OR A FRIEND SOMETHING PRETTY

DIRECT DONATION
  • you may also make a PayPal donation to Allyson and Operation Help Hank (this donation goes directly to Al & doesn't pass through my account)  **if you have difficulty with this link and are using a mobile device or tablet, just use your PayPal app and make a donation to alnational1@gmail.com.  Thanks!

I have also added two more days to my UN-occupy the malls sale to thank all of my customers for their support over the years.
Just look for the "COUPON" banner on items starting at midnight tonight
then use the code for that day at checkout
p.s. The search feature is a little glitchy today, I'll have it fixed by tonight!
I'm finishing up a run of pendants to list in the shop for the sale, so I'd better get off this darned computer and start photographing and listing them!

And yes, any sales items that also fall into the Help Hank category will automatically have the profits donated to Al.

Marketing Tidbit: Play A Little

Have some fun with your customers - invite them over to play once in a while.  Laugh a little.  There doesn't need to be a payoff, a prize or a giveaway for them every time they come to visit.  Sometimes, it's enough just to hang out with you and goof off for a while.

Halloween-themed free downloadable coloring page
from Kittycrossbones over on Facebook
for you, your kids, your friends, whatever

Some marketing isn't going to have an immediate and direct effect on your bottom line, but it does build up your likeability, which is a huge part of what handmade is all about.  Besides, even if nothing comes of your evil plan for world domination through free coloring pages, it's worth doing for the smiles.

Year Two With Dog - It's Still Bliss

If you've been following my posts and photos and social networking around the web, then you know that Ron and I are the lucky "humans" to a very, VERY adorable Jack Russell Terrier named Abby.
A tired Jack Russell is a good Jack Russell
Abby loves to snuggle!

Today is the second anniversary of the day she found us on a hiking trail in Coloma (Sutter's Mill), California (and here are some links if you're interested in reading the original post and the one-year post).
super sweet face!
Abby, the first week with us: skinny & submissive with shock-collar scars.

Since then, the ride has been bumpy, stinky, muddy, snuggly, furry and pretty much completely wonderful. When we first had her, she didn't know how to play tug-o-war, bark, chase a ball or just enjoy being a dog.  Clearly, she had not been given boundaries or received positive feedback in her first "home."  Well, we took care of that in short order!
Abby's Graduation (Intermediate Obedience)
Graduation from Intermediate Obedience Training! YAY!

Ron and I often muse that now she must hear "GOOD DOG!" more in one day than she heard in the first two years of her life.  As a matter of fact, sometimes she even "helps" the trainer show other dogs how to behave!  Now she plays, growls like a terrier should, is a PERFECT watch dog, loves children, people in wheelchairs, dogs and pretty much everything life has to offer - including tug toys and balls!
Abby & Buddy!
She loves to play with her friends, like Buddy.

Oh, and she's even on Facebook. and has started posing for super-awesome artsy portraits.
Most awesome portrait ever by Kev Seconds
Custom portrait of Abby by Kevin Seconds (and yeah, he'll paint your dog too!)

I'm not sure what "they" mean by it's a dog's life, when describing something bad, but I do know they certainly weren't talking about THIS dog!

Letter From The Crazy Dog Park Lady

SENT VIA E-MAIL

Robert Goss
Parks & Recreation Director
City of Folsom
50 Natoma Street
Folsom, CA 95630

Dear Mr. Goss,

I am writing to let you know of my extreme disappointment as a Folsom resident, home owner and dog owner regarding the way that the City of Folsom has managed FIDO Field. I've had a growing dissatisfaction for some time, but was finally motivated to notify the Department and City today.

This afternoon, I took our Jack Russell Terrier to the park only to find it closed. Upon returning home, I called the number which stated that the park would be "closed because of recent rain," however, it has been sunny for two days straight and both sides of the park were quite dry - dryer in fact than many other days when it has remained open.

As I mentioned above, this incident is not the only one that gives me pause. Over the past 12 months, I have also noticed that while the park is closed for "rest and maintenance" two days a week, maintenance is regularly neglected. Specifically:
  • Refuse containers are rarely emptied, and are sometimes left to overflow for several weeks. At one point, owners resorted to hanging additional garbage bags on the fence since the cans were full (the same bag was hanging on the fence for two weeks straight). As a result, the odor of dog feces emanates from the area of the garbage can, even on the coldest of days. Given the nature of the park ,it's understandable that the cans WILL smell of dog feces, however I am unclear on why it would be left to pile up for more than 5 days at any given time.
  • The lawn on the small dog side was completely neglected during the entire summer months and died from a lack of water. In August, a thick layer of fine dirt and grass seed was tossed on top of the dead lawn and was not watered in. This careless "reseeding" attempt resulted in asthma inducing dust for over 3 weeks, followed by mud which choked and killed any of the original lawn that managed to survive the summer.
The dog owners who frequent this park have formed a true community and we pride ourselves on picking up after our dogs and maintaining a pleasant park - that is, when it is open.

More than a response letter listing excuses, I would truly like to see some action taken on the above issues. Folsom says it prides itself on its parks and open spaces, and that should most certainly extend to the dog park it has taken on as a responsibility of the City.

Sincerely,

Kristine Sandvik

FINALLY I Can Talk About This!

I'm sure it will shock each and every one of you to the core when I say that I have a difficult time with keeping information to myself.  I know, you're thinking, "but Krissi, you are so quiet and shy!"  Go figure.

Anyway, I've been working on a commission that I couldn't post updates on since the person it was being commissioned for is on all the same networking sites that I am.  Well, he opened his Chanukkah present (the aforementioned commissioned painting) today and NOW I can spill the (Kosher) beans!

Final portrait of Samson Mordechai Wisenheid
This young man is Samson Mordechai Wezenheid, an applehead teacup Chihuahua belonging to San Franciscans, artist Mim Weisburd and her 'hubbear' Michel Chagall.  Michel describes himself as "married, queer, eco-kosher Jew, San Franciscan, dog lover, baker of challah who works with developmentally disabled adults (no relation to Marc Chagall)."   Thanks so much to one of my favorite people, Mim, for commissioning a piece from me and to Michel for just being yourself and giving me such great material to work with!

Samson admires his portrait
I think Samson approves!

As always, you can visit Flickr to see photos of this work in progress.

Oh Duct Tape! How Do I Love Thee...

As some of you may have heard, my little Jack Russell Terror Abby, recently had surgery to remove a small (probably benign) mass from one of her toes and is wearing a very large pressure bandage for at least a week.

Just to make the experience more fun for everyone, we have to keep the bandage dry during a deluge. We started off wrapping her bandaged paw in Saran wrap and Scotch tape every time she had to pee, looked like she had to pee or we thought she needed to go outside and pee.  It got old REALLY fast.

I looked up doggie shoes and bandage covers.  At $30-60, they just weren't going to happen (we are already closer to $900 than $800 on this round of health care for our "free" dog).  I decided to google "DIY dog waterproof boot" and found this awesome tutorial to make doggie shoes out of DUCT TAPE on my favorite place to geek out on DIY projects, Instructables.com.  So for less than $1 of tape, my Crop A Dile & a few grommets and an old shoelace, I now have a reusable, easy-to-use waterproof doggie bandage protection!

Homemade waterproof doggie boot!

When I took Abby in for her bandage change this morning, I had the entire staff cracking up.

** Update: 12/15/09: I am happy to say that ABBY GETS TO KEEP HER TOE!!! The weird mystery mass was an inflamed squamous papilloma (a  very expensive wart). Lab said our vet (the wonderful Jodi Van Tyne, DVM) got the entire mass. If it recurs, we'll at least know what it is.

HELLA Scary (but I'm doin' it anyway)

Commissions. They are kinda scary 'cause, as an artist, I always worry that the recipient won't LOVE the work, and as a control freak, it's tough to hand over the reigns.  Custom works are also incredibly fun and fulfilling - especially when someone really loves your style and they just want you to 'do your thing' with some basic guidelines (color, favorite images, etc.).  The feeling of giving them something completely unique is incomparable to anything else.

The fulfilling and fun part has officially won out over the scary part and I've decided to take more pet portrait commissions (<-- check out the link to compare the original critter photos to my interpretations).  Prices start at $115 for a small (8x10") pyrography and mixed-media on wood plaque and go up according to size, number of animals / items, etc.

Custom Pet Portraits
So.... ya want one for yourself or as a gift?  It's super easy!  Just visit the custom orders section of my online shop or drop me a line telling me what size and the basics of what you'd like (e.g., "3 skeleton dogs" or "2 parrots popping over a heart" or "1 stylized (long-necked) cat with a skull", etc.), and I'll get back to you with all the particulars.

While I have taken all of the commissions I can get "under the tree" in time for the holidays, I can create a printable gift certificate to give for Hannukah, to stick in a stocking or to hand to your special someone over a New Year's glass of champagne at midnight (pretty much right up until the last minute). That means that if you're still looking for that perfect gift, you're NOT "S.O.L." just yet.

Turnaround time for the actual piece is approximately 2-4 weeks from the time I receive all the stuff I need:
  • your pet's photos
  • your list of preferred colors,
  • likes, dislikes, and/or
  • examples of other pieces of my work that you would like me to use as a starting point.
The creative process takes so long becuase it's currently winter and the layers of paint and glaze dry  v e r y  S L O W L Y.   From May - October, I can churn these babies out in record time!

*     *    *    *    *    *

Here are some of the pieces I've completed this year:

This skele-doggie portrait was for a musically inclined friend from high school who said (roughly),  "I love my Chihuahua, Day of the Dead & Edward Gorey" which resulted in this painting:
Final Chi Chi portrait!

An artist and friend asked me to interpret her kitties in the Love Cats style with them popping over a skull (like Grinding to a Hault).  She also told me she liked the background A Brand New Sky.... I painted this (and it must have turned out OK as the prints are selling like hotcakes):
Kitties for Kit (final)

Of course, this all started because my goofball of a my husband asked semi-jokingly if I could, instead of painting pretty little stylized girls, paint him a "WALKING EYE" from The Venture Bros.  Answer: Yes. Yes I can.
Walking EYE (final)

Just in case you think I only do crazy ass skulls and robots stuff, here's a piece that's in progress for a friend's sister.  She isn't into Day of the Dead, likes dusty teal (which isn't usually part of my color palette) and loves her Chihuahua named Paco (nicknamed Pookie) whose favorite toy is a pink pacifier.
Custom Chihuahua portrait (Paco)

You Have Been Warned

In all seriousness, I'm "feeling" this sign lately since I've been suffering from self-imposed exile in my studio while I work furiously to finish some commissions I took for the holidays. I reiterate that the exile (and subsequent absence of a real blog post) is self-imposed as I try to bring in as much cash as possible to build up the "Skelekitty Tee Shirt Startup Fund" we're working on over here. Yes, I know you all want a tee shirt! I'm painting as fast as I can (now go buy some prints while they're on sale 2fer one).

In other news, Abby has fallen prey to some mysterious toe malady and is going under the knife tomorrow morning. Hopefully, it's just something jammed in there next to her little doggie toenail which hasn't responded to antibiotics and hot epsom salt soaks. If not... well, I understand that even Jack Russells can live full and speedy lives with three toes on one of their front feet. Meanwhile, she's in good spirits and the funkiness that has afflicted said toe is in a place where it hasn't impeded her running any (dog park patrons beware).   I'll keep you all updated as we discover more.

One Whole Year

One year ago today, Ron and I were found by a cute little Jack Russell Terrier while hiking in one of California's many state parks.  We were smitten by the time we got to the end of the trail even though she was skinny, covered in ticks and smelled horrible.  You could tell she knew she'd hit the jackpot when we invited her to come home with us, ticks, stink and all.
Right after finding her
Abby - right after she found us

On the way home, the plan was for her to sleep in the back yard. When we arrived at the house, we figured she could sleep in a kennel in the garage. By the time we'd cleaned her up and fed her, she had a reservation on the bed.
Who, ME?
Abby's first week at home

Neither Ron nor I had ever had a dog before.  Now we wonder aloud and on a regular basis how we EVER lived without one.  She's such a happy little dog now, and very VERY sweet and gentle (weird for a JRT, but we're thrilled to have gotten so lucky).   She has also learned to NOT chase the kitties (even when they really deserve it).

New Project - kitties (with fur, even!)

Howdy there gang!  While I constantly insist that I blog without obligation, I thought I'd apologize for being AWOL recently just the same.

Along with the usual flurry of activity that comes with the month of October -my wedding anniversary, frenzied outings before the weather turns, not to mention Halloween & Day of the Dead- I've been down and out with an ear infection that was more persistent that my Jack Russell Terrier after a ground squirrel.

The last couple of weeks have been spent sleeping, reading trashy novels and sketching for practice, so I don't have a lot to show you, but yesterday I got back to work on a commissioned piece for fellow artist Jen X of her kitties, Neptune (who has gone to The Great Kitty Beyond) and Stardust.
Neptune and Stardust for pet portrait

I had done a sketch of Stardust back at the end of August, then got focused on other projects.
"Stardust" study

Finally, yesterday I got inspired on the colors and layout of the piece for Jen, and started sketching the second kitty, Neppie.

More on Neptune

And now, to the actual canvas I go to start the layout and sketching of the actual piece!

Oh, and by the way, Skelekitty is annoyed that I'm drawing cats with fur - as you might suspect, she prefers a little more bone showing.

Kitty Kismet

Those of you who have been following my blog/facebook/twitter posts know that Ron and I put our old orange tabby cat, Finnegan, to sleep on Tuesday. It was the right decision, though it is never an easy one to see through.

As I mentioned in my last post, this cat has been with me since I was in my early 20s and has gotten me through break-ups, bad jobs, moves, family problems, money worries, unmedicated depression and more. Some days I wonder if I would have made it through my 20s, not to mention my 30s and into my 40s, without that fuzzy guy. I even gave up my engagement ring budget of $3,000 in 2002 to save him when he mysteriously stopped eating. I never once doubted that choice and am happy with my $299 pink sapphire and the extra seven years I got to spend with Mr. Ringie (nicknamed in 1998 for his tail, ironically enough).

Finnegan Francis O'Malley 1990-2009
"Finnegan Francis O'Malley" (1990-2009)

We arrived at our vet's office to some pretty sad faces. Everyone had an attachment to my funny old cat who most had known for ten years. One of the office staff said she had even thought of staying home. While I never forget how much animals touch the lives of their people, I overlook how much they touch the lives of everyone they meet.

We decided to get the paw-print plaque, which meant that we also needed to have a private cremation and would receive the ashes. I am one of those people who completely separates the spirit from the body in my mind, so a box of ashes itself doesn't mean much to me. Not to mention that I had NO idea what to do with a little pine box of "ex kitty" (Heather will get that reference, though precious few others ever will). The staff suggested planting a tree, or scattering them in his favorite outdoor place, none of which really struck me as completely "right," but as Ron pointed out, we'd figure that out when the time came.

Despite all the sadness, I am happy to say that his crossing over was very peaceful. Because of collapsed veins and a need for regular blood tests over the past few months, he had developed a stress response to needles (even acupuncture). Our long-time veterinarian Jodi VanTyne, DVM (who saved his life in 2002 and loved him very much) suggested an oral dosage that, while it would take longer, would let him leave this world without experiencing fear as his last emotion. Ron and I sat with him for a long time, petting him and talking to him. Jodi also joined us at our request, petting and talking to him. When it was clear that he was no longer aware of his surroundings, she finally gave him an injection and we all said goodbye. I gave him one last kiss and told him I loved him. Then I went home, cried, slept, started work on some memorial pieces and read all the wonderful comments & notes people left about my boy, all of which helps more than any of you could ever know.

Memorial pieces to work through
the grief of losing my 19 year old cat, Finnegan

Tuesday night, the fog of stress which had permeated the house for the last month lifted, and both kitties (Mouse and Gracie) and the dog slept in bed with us last night - totally incident-free.

Yesterday, my mind wandered back to Finnegan's ashes and what to do with them while I was talking to Allyson at the gym (aside: many of you may not know this, but personal trainers are kinda like bartenders or hairdressers -that is, psychologists/therapists-  who beat your ass silly for money). I was just thinking out loud that I didn't really want to bury him in the back yard of this house, since Ron and I don't want to stay here for more than five years (we have dreams of a bit more space around our home than 10 feet in each direction). As far as scattering his ashes somewhere he loved ... well, his favorite place for the last two decades has been sitting on my chest while I lie in bed, his paws on my face. Following a train of thought, I supposed I could put some of the ashes in a little vial and hang it from a chain so I could have Finnegan on my chest, near my heart, whenever I wanted...

And that is when I was hit by the obvious solution: A long-time co-worker of Ron's and now artsy-crafty friend of mine, Jim Adlhoch, introduced me to his line of hand made glass memorial lampwork beads about a year or so back.

To create a memorial bead, Jim incorporates a few granules of the cremains into the glass, which can take the shape of a focal bead for a pendant or smaller beads for earrings or a bracelet. He also makes some beads with trees on them, in the shape of vessels and that even mimic real stones:

Usually, people tell him what colors or color schemes they want, but as a fellow artist, I told Jim to let the glass tell him what it wanted to be. I gave him some general guidelines - I like dichroic glass and bright jewel colors, pinks or iridescents, but unfortunately don't look good in orange or yellow which were 'Ginnie's colors. I'm becoming pretty fond of the round clear/opaque mix bead to the right of the "vessel" bead in the first picture, but in various shades of pink....

Jim is also making Ron and I one of his beautiful "vortex" marbles and will be incorporating some of Finnegan's cremains in there as well. I told him Ron's and my favorite colors, and that Finnegan had greenish gold eyes with orange fur. We shall see what the glass says to him....

I love that we will be able to look at two beautiful works of art, made just for us, and remember all the wonderful things that Finnegan brought to our lives. Of course, when this project is all finished, I will be certain to post photos of our pieces, so stay tuned.

If you would like to have one of these memorial pieces, or just a pretty piece of handmade art glass, drop Jim a line (and tell him Skelekitty sent ya).

Bye Bye Mr. Finnegan (1990-2009)

It's been a tough week. My 20 year old kitty cat, Finnegan, who has been suffering from kitty-dementia for a while, has gotten worse. Now, instead of just wandering around at night howling, he has become aggressive, attacking our dog, both of the other cats, my husband and even trying to bite ME.

Finnegan Francis O'Malley (approx. 1994)

Late last week I finally decided to put him to sleep rather than risk an even more dreadful end (imagine a scenario where the dog fights back and perhaps even kills Finnegan). The earliest appointment I could get that fit my hubby's schedule was for tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/1), so the waiting has put an additional strain on the situation.

This cat has been with me since I was in my early 20s and has gotten me through break-ups, bad jobs, moves, family problems, money worries, unmedicated depression and more.

After crying for the entire day on Thursday, I was sorely tempted to grab a $5 bill and hit the drive-through at In-N-Out for a Double Double (animal style) and an order of fries with which I could eat away the pain. Instead, I put my butt in the chair of my favorite stylist and got my "hurr did." Initially, I went in for a color touch up, but left with more (err... less, actually).

Pretty girl (said with sarcasm)
New hurr - no makeup
New hurr

YAY ME for NOT making a bad choice! And the sugar-free icing on this fat free cake is that my hair is off my neck during the hottest part of the California Central Valley summer.

In addition to the kitty issues, I have several art shows that are upcoming and I'm somewhat less than prepared for them. I'm finishing up some pieces, am working on a tribute to Finnegan which will be available at the Big Cat, Little Cat show at Body Tribe on 2nd Saturday, and am printing some 8x10s, so I'll be OK, but I'm still unbelievably rushed. Oh, and this is my very first year participating in the local Sacramento chalk art festival "Chalk It Up!" over Labor Day weekend - EEEP!

Go make a list of everything you need to do, check stuff off, then give your "fur people" some extra love tonight & thank them for being in your life.

xo

Krissi

p.s. Extra special thanks to my life-long friend, Joe "Tex" Selby for talking me into adopting Finnegan in the first place.

Commissions To The Left of Me, Commissions To The Right...

My workload went from "famine" to "feast" in a matter of days! This bounty of Krissi-fied animal painting requests is thanks in large part to a skeleportrait I did for my friend Hezekiah of his beloved Weimeraner (and personal doggie friend of Abby's), Logan.
Logan the Pirate Dog - FINAL!
Logan as "Pirate Dog"

and here is the handsome boy, himself "in the fur," as it were.

A friend of mine from High School, John B. asked if I'd make one of his Chihuahua, Chi Chi.
John B's Chihuahua, "Chi Chi"

I sent him around to look at my other paintings to see what colors, etc. he liked. He ran across the skele-portrait I did earlier this year of Allyson's dog Lulu in "Wanna Go To The River," and asked me to have his little girl popping up over a heart like Lu. Here's the finished portrait of Chi Chi:

Detail of her collar. I thought I was done when I realized the portrait needed a little corazon milagro charm. After I showed this to John, he sent me this!

So the last coat of UV protectant / sealer has gone on and as soon as the piece finishes setting up, it's heading to John's house. I'm hoping that when he gets it, he'll send me pictures of it alongside the rest of his collection (hint hint!).

What's really exciting about this, is that (1) I've received a double commission for some Krissified Chihuahuas (with fur - LOL), (2) am trading a double portrait of kitties for a custom painting by the amazing JenX of whom I have been a longtime fan AND (3) I've heard a rumor that a long-time friend may be commissioning a piece I want to do called "Order of the Black Lab inspired by this picture of Lulu.
