One Whole Year

One year ago today, Ron and I were found by a cute little Jack Russell Terrier while hiking in one of California's many state parks.  We were smitten by the time we got to the end of the trail even though she was skinny, covered in ticks and smelled horrible.  You could tell she knew she'd hit the jackpot when we invited her to come home with us, ticks, stink and all.
Right after finding her
Abby - right after she found us

On the way home, the plan was for her to sleep in the back yard. When we arrived at the house, we figured she could sleep in a kennel in the garage. By the time we'd cleaned her up and fed her, she had a reservation on the bed.
Who, ME?
Abby's first week at home

Neither Ron nor I had ever had a dog before.  Now we wonder aloud and on a regular basis how we EVER lived without one.  She's such a happy little dog now, and very VERY sweet and gentle (weird for a JRT, but we're thrilled to have gotten so lucky).   She has also learned to NOT chase the kitties (even when they really deserve it).
Abby Dog (little once again!)

Abby - now

  1. I love that story! And I love that your furbaby is a rescued furbaby!! What a great job! ... and you guys didn't do too bad of a job as parents either ;-)

  2. LOL! Thanks! I certainly do NOT recommend a Jack Russell for any first-time fur-parents, but she's turned out to be a great little dog who's a pleasure to be around (about 97.5% of the time).

  3. Look at how much healthier she looks! She's adorable. I can't imagine how we ever lived without our cats either. Hoping to get a doggie (or two) someday myself.

  4. I'm convinced that dogs choose their owners. (Does not apply to puppies!!)

  5. Amy - I really miss Finnegan and am glad that I have Mouse & Gracie (the kitties) and Abby to take care of me.

Katie - Now that you mention it, I just realized that ALL of our animals found US. We weren't intentionally "pet shopping" at the time they came into our lives. :-) Thank you, Universe!

  6. What a sweet story. Abby is one lucky little pup, oris it you are one lucky lady?! :)

  7. Tess, I think we ALL lucked out on this one!

  8. Great, great story Krissi!
We have four kitties...been over two years since the passing of our Big puppy of 13 years...Looking forward to the BIG Horns and Halos on December 5th...I will post pics (and hopefully some video)...

  9. Abby is adorable!!! I have a male Jack Russell named Robin and he is the dickens!!!
We have 2 big cats Jack the pumpkin king, Ash and two little kitties Mysterio and Tiger. Out of em all Robin is the stinka. I love how he looks right at me with his big brown eyes.

  10. I haven't had a dog since I was a kid but I have cats now, and it's incredible how fur-babies take over your heart and completely change your life and perspective on things :))
